Endoscopic Ultrasound

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a procedure using a thin flexible endoscope with an ultrasound probe and a camera on its tip. The procedure is performed with sedation and most people will not remember the procedure. The EUS endoscope is passed via the mouth to the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine. It allows the lining of the upper gut and some abdominal organs to be viewed with good quality ultrasound from inside the body. This allows for the diagnosis, needle biopsy and treatment of several conditions including the liver and bile duct (drainage tube), pancreas, gallbladder, lymph nodes and blood vessels.

At GastroNorth, Dr Joshua Butt performs ESD.
