Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure that is performed to remove pre-cancerous or suspected early stage cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.

Pioneered in Japan, this technique provides the best chance for a cure with a reduced risk of recurrence and reduced risk of major surgery.

It is recommended for resection of suspected early cancer or pre-cancerous lesions of the oesophageal and stomach as well as for colonic and rectal polyps with high risk features.

At GastroNorth, Dr Joshua Butt and Dr Oliver Cronin perform ESD.
