Dr Shamilah Lachal is a Melbourne-based gastroenterologist and endoscopist with more than 30 years of medical experience. She graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1994 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2002.
She completed her basic physician training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, followed by advanced gastroenterology training at the Royal Melbourne and Western Hospitals. Dr Lachal then undertook research into bowel cancer at Austin Health and was awarded a PhD in 2006.
Since then, she has worked in clinical practice at Northern Health and previously Western Health. She has extensive experience performing gastroscopy and colonoscopy and is a member of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Service at Northern Health.

Dr Lachal regularly attends national and international gastroenterology and hepatology conferences to remain up to date with advances in her field. She is also a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
Dr Lachal is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Northern Health. She consults privately at GastroNorth in Bundoora and Eltham and performs procedures at The Victorian Gut Centre and Northpark Private Hospital.
Alongside her professional work, Dr Lachal values open and clear communication to support strong doctor–patient partnerships. She is also a mother of three young men and enjoys cooking, baking, walking, book club, live shows, and spending time with friends.
