Gastroenterologist & Endoscopist

Dr Raouf Bassily has more than 35 years experience as a clinician, and more than 20 years experience as a gastroenterologist.

His Basic Physician Training was undertaken at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre. His Advanced Physician Training was initially in the area of Infectious Diseases at Fairfield Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Hospital, where he gained much experience in HIV medicine, tropical diseases medicine and hospital based infectious diseases.

Dr Raouf Bassily subsequently undertook specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at the Austin Hospital, which gave him an extensive experience in liver diseases, liver transplantation, luminal gastroenterology, emergency and elective endoscopy.

He has an interest in community Gastroenterology especially Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis), Functional Bowel Disorders (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Coeliac disease, Colorectal cancer,  Polyps and Endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Dr Bassily regularly attends local and international conferences and workshops in his field, and is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr Raouf Bassily is a keen skier and enjoys summers in Barwon Heads with his family. 

Dr Raouf Bassily has a public appointment as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at The Northern Hospital, and works privately in Bundoora, Whittlesea and Wallan. He speaks French and Arabic fluently.
