Dr Raouf Bassily is a highly respected gastroenterologist with more than 37 years of clinical experience.

Dr Bassily completed his undergraduate medical degree in Alexandria University, Egypt. Following the RACP exam (UK), he migrated to Australia. He was awarded a Masters degree in Medicine before starting his Physician training in Australia.

His Basic Training was undertaken at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre. He worked as an Infectious Diseases registrar at Fairfield Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Hospital, gaining knowledge in HIV medicine, tropical diseases medicine and hospital-based infectious diseases.

He subsequently undertook further advanced training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Austin Hospital, providing him with extensive experience in treating liver diseases, liver transplantation, luminal gastroenterology, emergency and elective endoscopy. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1999.

Dr Bassily continues to maintain a broad range of interests in all areas of Gastroenterology including –

  • Endoscopy – High quality gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures, including bowel cancer screening
  • Inflammatory Bowel Diseases – Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Functional Bowel Disorders – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Coeliac Disease: Comprehensive care and management
  • Reflux disease

He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia and the American Gastroenterological Association. He regularly attends local and international conferences and keeps abreast of the latest advances and research in gastroenterology.

Dr Bassily is highly experienced, compassionate and offers his patients quality individualised care. He can also converse in both French and Arabic.

He has dedicated over 24 years to the community through Northern Health where he currently holds the position of Consultant Gastroenterologist. In addition to his public work, he also works privately at GastroNorth.

Dr Raouf Bassily consults at our rooms in Bundoora and also in Whittlesea and Wallan. He offers endoscopy services at The Victorian Gut Centre and Northpark Private Hospital.
